The Vagus Nerve; what it is and how it can help in stress reduction

A friend recently passed on to me a plethora of good info regarding the vagus nerve and how stimulating it can help to quickly reduce our tension and anxiety during a stressful situation.  I will include a few different links for reference, but what I gather overall is that slow (5-7 breaths per minute if possible) diaphragmatic breathing aka "belly breathing" for a few minutes can help calm our nervous system.  It can also help the digestive and circulatory systems, so doing breathing exercises daily seems like a win-win to me.  What are you waiting for?!
